We Have Lost

We have been defeated,

Not in a war of guns and swords,
Not in a war of words,
We've lost in a war of hope.

The hope of the torturer triumphs upon the hope of the tortured,
Yet we believe hope does not take sides.

Only a few know the injustice of hope,
The victors and the vanquished,
The creator and the destroyed,
The lovers and the rememberers,
The art and the artists.

We are tortured by our memories and ancestors to follow the way of perfection,
While they cry in tears of regret.

We have been dragged into a cycle of hope,
A biased hope.

We believe the people of belief have achieved salvation,
Yet they are the ones who desire escape the most.
We believe the people of love have been blessed with a companion who provides love and security,
Yet they are the ones who desire freedom the most.
We believe the victors of war have conquered the lands of heaven,
Yet they are the ones who lost all spirits.

We have lived in hope long enough to forget what despair was,
We have been defeated by the very thing that gave us strength to rise from our graves of defeat,
Our hearts have been crushed by hope itself,
And they do not belong to us anymore.
